[from the ECCA website] It is with great sadness that we have to report the recent passing of Bill Thorncroft of Essex Roads CC whom many will remember as an organiser, timekeeper, official and President and committee member of the ECCA. He was admitted into hospital in mid-December and died on Wednesday 23rd January.

The following link “An Appreciation of Bill Thorncroft” is to a PDF file written by another ECCA President, Dick Spanton, also sadly no longer with us. The document was produced for Bill’s 90th birthday and should be seen as such but it really sums up just what Bill achieved in his life.

Bill Thorncroft’s funeral will be Thursday 21 February at 12.30pm at Bentley Crematorium, Ongar Road, Brentwood, Essex CM15 9RZ. No flowers but donations in Bill’s name to the Royal British Legion, a charity close to his heart, are welcome.

The 2018 annual luncheon and prize presentation at the Rosery House Hotel in Exning “overlooking” the E2 was a great celebration of the efforts of our members over the year. Our chairman Andy Grant did a great job as MC and introduced Guest of Honour Matt Bottrill with a very humorous analogy using Dickens’s “Hard Times”. After the presentations, Matt kindly agreed to do a Q&A session, and although there were numerous questions regarding Matt’s own racing career and training regimes, the one question he couldn’t answer was put by Wendy, wife of one of his trained athletes; “How on Earth do you manage get my husband to do what you tell him to do?”

Davey Jones was on hand to take photographs and did a great job even though he was a little unsure how to capture such slow moving subjects!!! 😉
