Explanation of Standards system

A table is published in the National handbook, which sets for each distance a standard time (or distance) for each year of age. The rider’s actual performance is then subtracted from their age standard and the result forms their ‘plus’ (or minus where the standard is faster than the actual ride).

For example, if a 50 year old male did a time of 1.05.00 at 25 miles against his age standard of 1.11.07 then he will be credited with a ‘plus’ of 6 minutes and 7 seconds.

Detailed rules are in the National handbook.

 Entering Standards awards

For a fee of £9 you can enter the season long Standards Awards system at all distances. The fee should be sent to the Treasurer who will notify the Group Recorder. He will send you the entry form. At the end of the season you should send him the completed entry form together with copies of the relevant result sheets by15th October. In the first year you will be presented with a medal for all the distances at which you beat the VTTA Standard. In subsequent years you will only receive a medal for the distances at which you improved your ‘plus’. You will receive a plaque if you achieve a medal at 4 or more distances.
